The trip started with John and I meeting at the Exxon Station located at Highway 59 and South Dairy Ashford. I arrived there before John, so I had time to top off my tank and get some ice for the cooler.. John arrived a short time later, and by 6:50 am we were on the road heading south on 59.
Our plan is to head south on 59 to the spur, jump up to US Highway 90-A and then head west to Eagle Lake. From there we would take FM 102 up to Columbus where we will meet Dick, Ben and Jeff for breakfast a Schobles.
We arrived at Schobles just after 8am and the other three were there waiting on us. We sat down to a great breakfast,. I had an Western omelet and it was good.
After breakfast we headed west on I-10 for about 20 miles then we dropped down to FM 532 which we took to Gonzales. At Gonzales we took a break and gassed up the bikes and took a good look at the sky. It didn’t look good. We knew we would probably would get wet on this day, and we were right.
After leaving Gonzales, we took several roads that led around San Antonio to the south. The main one was 97. We played hit and miss with the rain, but all in all it wasn’t to bad. The highlight of the day came when we came upon about 2 or 3 miles of road construction. This was all dirt and because of the rain it was all mud. Everyone slipped and slided through but afterward the bikes were a mess. We headed to Uvalde where we stopped at some BBQ Grill and had lunch. Everyone had the 99 cent sandwich, and I for once ordered healthy and got the salad. I should have gotten the sandwich, the salad sucked.
After lunch we went to the local self car washed and hosed off the bikes. They are not clean, but at least he mud is knocked off. We then headed to Camp Wood where we checked into the motel.
After a drink (or two) we went to Sisters Restaurant and had dinner. It wasn’t bad, most of us had the special which was Chicken Fried Steak.
After dinner we returned to the motel, had another drink (or two) and then retired.
