The day started as most of my Sunday's do, and that is to have breakfast with some fellow riders. What made this Sunday different from others is two of us will be heading to West Texas, Big Bend Country right after breakfast. This will be Trike trip. John will be riding his white CSC Goldwing trike and I will be on my black one. We have no real route planned except to head west, and maybe make it to Uvalde the first day.
The weather wasn't looking good. There were heavy clouds, and it looked like it was going to rain. The weather report stated that there was a 70% chance that we were going to get wet. Our thoughts were we have rain suits, so let it rain.
We headed out around 8:00 AM with a brief stop to top off the tanks and get some ice. Our initial plan was to head south on US 59 to Spur 10 and then catch US Alt 90 and head west. We figure once we get to Gonzales we will decide how we want to get around San Antonio. We made it as far as Hallettsville when we decided it was time for coffee and a donut. Since I don't drink coffee, I elected to have lemonade and a donut. While we were munching down on stuff we should not be eating, we decided to take a southernly route around San Antonio.
After our break we continued heading west with a bit of a detour to the south. We ended up going a little bit farther south than we planned, but we found some great roads, and the wild flowers were out in force. We missed the heavy rain, but we did catch some drizzle along the way. By the time we got past Gonzales, the rain was all but gone.
As we headed south around San Antonio we started taking various FM Roads that we have never been on before. To my surprise the roads were very scenic and to add to the experience, the wild flowers were in full bloom. We ended up farther south than we planned, but we eventually turned back northwest and headed to Uvalde.
We stopped a few times to take some short breaks, and lunch was in Karnes City at the local Dairy Queen. We both ate what we shouldn't be eating, but since no one was there to tell us not to, we did it any way. We arrived in Uvalde around 4:30 PM. We decided to check into the Americian Best Value motel, which turned out not to be to bad. We had dinner at the Kettle Restaurant next door, and after one or two social drinks, we called it a night.
