Day two started out a bit cool. We woke up around 5:00 AM, and after getting our showers we headed next door and had a leisurely breakfast at the Kettle Restaurant. After breakfast we headed back to the room and loaded the bikes, and around 7:30 we hit the road. The day started sunny, but by the time we hit Bracketville it started to cloud up with what appeared to be a threat of rain.
We stopped in Bracketville and gassed up and then headed north on FM 674 to Rocksprings. The farther we drove north the cloudier and colder it got. It really looked like we might hit some serious rain, and John even made the comment that we might just turn around and head back to Bracketville.
One of the views on the way to Rocksprings
We arrived in Rocksprings around 9:00 AM and decided to take another break for John to get some coffee and me some hot chocolate. We spent a little time hanging around sort of watching what the weather was going to do. We eventually decided to put in our jacket liners and keep on going.
We headed north on 55 and eventually turned off onto some FM Road that I don't remember the number of. When we turned on the road there was a traffic barrier stating the road was closed due to high water. Well, by this time the sun was out, and I figured what the hell, lets go look at the water. The only two options we had were not very good, so at least we might get some pictures with the bikes near the water, or maybe in the water?????? I'm not sure John thought this was a good idea, but he came along anyway.
We made it through without hitting any high water. There was road damaged caused by high water, but it barely slowed us down. Well, using the word slow is a bit of a misnomer. We were barely moving all day, matter of fact at times I thought we were going backwards.
We made is to Ozona where we stopped for lunch. We found a steak house and though the service was slow it turned out to be pretty good. Not that we were in a hurry, you know your taking your time with people that came in after you are leaving before you.
FM 2400
John's best side. I have no idea what he is looking at.
After lunch we headed west on I-10 for about 20 miles until we turned off onto Ranch Road 290. We stopped for a bit at a scenic overlook and then headed to Sheffield where we turned south on Highway 349. About 11 miles later we turned onto FM 2400 which took us to US 285, which we took to Sanderson. We checked into the Outback Oasis Motel and broke out the social drinks. Tomorrow we head to the park.
