There will be four of us on this trip. My wife (Liz), and a good friend of my mothers (Jane) will tag along with us to check out the tower, and other various sites we plan to hit.
Day one stated with Liz and I leaving Houston headed to Tennessee. We used to do this trip in one day, but since we have been retired, we take a couple of days to get there, and lately it seems we may need to take three. We seem to be getting slower as we get older.
We started early to beat the rush hour traffic. We headed north on US 59 and at Livingston we turned east on US 190. We decided to stop for breakfast in Jasper, and the restaurant of choice was the House of Waffles. The food and service was excellent. After breakfast we headed back out US 190, but turned off onto 63 and headed towards Leesville. The ride was uneventfull but we did stop and manage to spend a $100.00 at the Walmart in Alexandria.
After our Walmart experience, we stayed on Highway 28, which we picked up in Leesville, and headed towards Natchez, Mississippi. My plan was to do the first leg of the Natchez Trace up to Jackson. We made it to the Trace and started the slow but scenic drive.
We made it to Jackson at around 3:30 PM, and we both felt it was time to call it a day. We jumped on I-55 and found a Comfort Inn in Canton. Couldn't be more perfect, the room rate is excellent and we even get a discount at the restaurant next door.
Tomorrow we will try and make it to Tennessee.
