Devils Tower

Sunday, May 2, 2010 - Day 5

We had another early start this morning.  It wasn't because of me.  It appears that Jane is not only an early riser, but after she gets up she is ready to roll.  We were on the road by 6:30 heading  north to try and find a place to eat breakfast.

This picture was taken right outside our motel room.

We headed north on Highway 79, but was surprised when we ran upon a road closed sign.  The road was completely blocked and we had no choice but to turn around and find another way.  We were griping about how they did not give you any warning about the road closure, but we found out at the next crossroad that they did, we were just to busy talking and missed it.

We quickly found an alternate route and arrived in Hannibal, MO in time for breakfast.  We found the Mark Twain Restaurant and had a nice breakfast.  After breakfast we visited Tom and Huck.

We were able to drive up to a scenic view point that over looked the Missouri River.  We took a few pictures and admired the view before moving on.

The rest of the day was just admiring the scenery where they will be planting corn in the coming weeks.  It was scenic, but it is Iowa, so what can I say.  The thing that impresses you most about this part of the country is how neat and clean everything is.  Every house you pass has a nice yard, and it is rare that you see one with an unkempt yard.

We made it to Minnesota and decided to call it a night in Albert Lea.  We are about 80 miles from the Mall of America, so we will arrive there tomorrow.  We don't know how long we will visit the place, but our main purpose for going there is just to say we have been there.  All of us have heard about the place for years, but have never been there.

We have no real plans for after the Mall except to head towards Devils Tower.  We do plan on finding something to do in between though.
