Heading East - Day 3

07/26/10 (Monday)

A normal start time for us, which was around 7:00 AM Central Time. I was a little concerned about getting all the luggage in our car, but it fit with a little room to spare. We planned to drive for about an hour and then stop for breakfast.

We ended us driving a bit more than an hour, but we did find a quaint cafe in Eufaula.

When you walk inside it was like taking a step back in time.  After sitting down and ordering breakfast, it was easy to say this cafe catered mostly to a lunch crowd.  There was an extremely long buffet table, and most of the folks there were preparing it for lunch.  We did have an excellent breakfast, and of course I had ham and eggs.  At least this time is was country ham.

A view inside.

After breakfast we continued north on 431.  This is probably the last highway number I am going to list.  We continued north on numerous back roads.  We rolled through the country side seeing many houses that we could not afford.  There were some beautiful homes.  The scenery was decent, but nothing spectacular.

While driving I realized why I don't like traveling east of the Mississippi River.  No matter what road you take, every 15 miles there is another small community.  Sometimes it's hard just to sit back and enjoy the ride.

We did stumble upon the KIA motor plant.  This was by accident, but since we are in our KIA Forte, I felt obligated to snap a picture.

I don't know if this is where our car was manufactured, I plan to check this out on the internet later on.
We did have one incident today.  This was strange.  I didn't mention in yesterday's blog that on the way to Liz's moms we rolled up behind a drunk just east of Evergreen, AL.  This guy was so drunk or high, that I was actually a bit concerned about passing.  He was only running about 40 miles per hour, so I decided to play it safe and wait and see if he turns off.  After a couple of miles he did and all was well.

Today we had a replay of yesterday.  We rolled up behind another drunk or high motorist.  This guy was worse than the one yesterday.  He was only going about 25 miles per hour, and he was really all over the road.  This guy I was planning on blowing past at the first opportunity, but fortunately he turned off a short time later.  Strange to run into two different drunks in the middle of the day.

We lost an hour when we entered Georgia, so now we are on eastern time.  We continued on to Cedarville, GA where we stopped for lunch.
Of course we had to have some;

Wasn't bad at all.  I was not fond of the rice, but the enchiladas were excellent.

After lunch it was getting late, at least by my standards, so we started checking to see where we wanted to stop.  We found a Comfort Inn in Dalton, GA, so we called for reservations and headed that way.

We arrived just in time, as we pulled under the cover at the front door it started pouring rain.

We got a nice suite, and since it was raining so hard and we really wasn't that hungry we just ordered pizza for delivery.

Tomorrow we should stop somewhere in Kentucky, but who knows.  I really don't have much of a plan except to head north.
