HEADING EAST - THE RIGHT WAY - ON BIKES

It is that time of year again.  Normally we head west for the month of October to revisit the desert, mountains, and land of the Fry Bread.  This year we planned to do the same, but due to some unexpected family issues, if I want to do the trip, I need to go east.

I'm not going to get into a lot of family business, but my mother had some surgery within the last month, and I feel the need to head home.  I told the other guys they can continue on with the plan to head west, but they decided that we haven't been east in a long time, so in short order, plans were changed and new plans were made to head east.

The trip is planned for three weeks.  In discussing where to go and what to do, we decided, if weather permits, we are going to Gettysburg to visit the battlefield.  Of course we plan to do a few things in between.

The cast for this event include Doug, who went with me out west last year, Dan, a long time riding friend, and Dick who I have been riding with for the last 20 years.  Doug and Dan will be on their Honda GL1800 Goldwings, Dick will be riding the new Stallion, and I have decided to take my Goldwing Trike.
The plan is to leave on Friday, October 1, 2010.  Doug, Dan, and I will meet at a gas station near my house, and then we will head north on US Highway 59 to Livingston, Texas to meet up with Dick.  From there we will head east on US Highway 190. We don't have to much of a plan after that except to get breakfast.

Unlike other trips, there are some dates where we have to be in some specific locations, so we will have to work around them.  I will be taking my mother for a doctor's visit on October 4th.  On October 9th we need to be back in Tennessee to attend my mothers 75th birthday party.  On October 16th, Doug needs to be in Indianapolis, Indiana for a wedding he has to attend that he thought he got out of when the original plan was to go west.

This has the makings of a fun trip, and when possible I plan to update the blog daily.
