As planned, Doug, Dan, and I met at the Shell Station near my house to start the trip. We were all there by 4:50 AM, so we headed north. The route was simple, north on US Highway 59 to Livingston, TX, where we would meet Dick. The drive was completely in the dark, but we all made it to Livingston around 6:15 AM.
Dick was already there, so after a short meet and greet, we decided to look for a place to eat breakfast. We didn't have to go far. We found the Courthouse Whistle Stop Cafe in downtown Livingston. Believe it or not is was just across the street from the courthouse.
They had the standard breakfast menu, and guess what I ordered.
If you guessed ham and eggs, then you guessed right. For a change I did order Rye toast.
After breakfast we headed east on US Highway 190 passing through Woodville, and Jasper. Outside of Jasper we turned on Highway 63 and headed for Louisiana. We took a short rest break on the side of the road in Burkeville, TX. After our uneventfull break, we continued on towards Lousiiana.
Highway 63 turns into LA Highway 8 at the state line. We headed into Leesville where we got gas and took a break. They had some cracklings, and though expensive I had to have some.

If you don't know what cracklings are, well, they are the nectar of the gods. They are basically a pork rind with bacon. Guarantee to stop your heart within minutes after consumption. They are the most unhealthy food that you can put in your mouth, but they taste so good.
After leaving Leesville we continued east on Highway 8 for quite a distance. We eventually connected up with US Highway 84, and we turned east and headed towards Natchez, MS.
In Jonesville, LA, we stopped at a hardware store where they happen to be having a customer appreciation day. The were serving Sausage Dogs and Soda. Of course we had to sample the wares.

After testing the Sausage we continued heading east to Natchez, where we decided to stop for lunch. The dogs were just an appetizer. Doug spotted a BBQ place named Big Momma's BBQ. Hell, how can you pass that up.
The BBQ was pretty good, matter of fact I was so happy to get my meal I forgot to take a before picture. Y'all will just have to do with an in-progress picture.
After lunch we decided to call it a day at the Days Inn in Natchez.
Tomorrow we plan to ride the Natchez Trace Trail. Not sure where we will stop for the night. Guess we will fin that out tomorrow.
