HEADING EAST - THE RIGHT WAY - ON BIKES

Saturday - October 2, 2010 - Day 2

Things you see driving down the road.

Our day started at 5:00 AM.  After showering, ALONE, we decided to eat the Continetal Breakfast at the motel.  It was the usual crappy cold eggs, waffles, and biscuits and gravy that all Days Inns serve.  After breakfast we loaded the bikes and hit the road.

The motel was only about two miles from the start of the Trace, so after a quick gas stop were were heading north on the Natchez Trace.

For those that don't know, the Natchez Trace is the trail/road that the barge folks took back home after they floated their barges down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.  I guess they couldn't paddle them back up, so they walked back.

We stopped at a place where you can still see the old trail.  Took a picture of the guys while we were there.  That is Dick on the left, Doug in the center, and in disguise is Dan.

There is nothing remarkable about the Parkway.  The speed limit is 50 miles per hour and is strictly enforced.  I like this road, it is about 450 mile long with no stop signs, traffic lights, or businesses.  Except around Jackson the traffic is very light.  You have to be in the right frame of mind to ride this road without going crazy.  I just set my cruise, turn on the music and enjoyed the ride.

Lunch was near Mathiston, MS at the Line Creek Pullout.  We had just gassed up and they had a Subway there, so we each grabbed a sandwich and looked and found this spot to eat them.

More of the trace.  We were able to see some color in the leaves, but they still have to ways to go.

Dick on his Stallion.  Rear shot from my bike.

We decided to spend the night in Muscle Shoals, AL.  We of course checked into the local crappy Days Inn, and for dinner we decided to eat at the Captain D's across the street.  We covered about 300 miles of the Parkway today, Dick and I plan to finish it tomorrow.

Tomorrow the group is going to split up.  Dick and I are heading up to my moms in Clarksville, TN, while Doug and Dan head to Lynchburg, TN to visit the Jack Daniels distillery.  We all plan to meet up again on Tuesday night.
