HEADING EAST - THE RIGHT WAY - ON BIKES

Sunday - October 5, 2010 - Day 5

There had been a change of plans since the last time I posted.  I went with my mother to her doctor's appointment, and it did not quite go as we expected.  The bad news is mom has to have another surgery on October 12th, so that changes some of our plans for the trip.
I have to be back in Clarksville for the surgery on the 12th, so that makes it impossible for me to get up to Gettysburg and back in time.Dick, Doug, Dan and myself discussed the situation, and it was decided that Doug and Dan would continue north, while Dick decided to hang out with me.

We still continued with the plan to meet back up with Doug and Dan tonight and ride the Smokey Mountains for a couple of days, but on Friday Dick and myself will return to Clarksville, while Doug and Dan continue heading north.  We all plan to meet back up in a week or so.

Now for today's ride.  Dick and I left my mom's house around 7:30 AM.  Our plan was to ride through northern Tennessee, and meet up with Doug and Dan in Danridge, which is just east of Knoxville.

We started out heading east on Highway 76.  This is the same highway I hit the deer in 2002, which resulted in me getting pretty busted up.  It was a bit spooky driving past the crash point, but we didn't see any of the deer's kin looking for me.

We stopped for breakfast at the Shoney's in Springfield.  After breakfast we continued heading east on 76.

Some colors are really starting to show.

We eventually turned on Highway 52 and happen to go by the Dale Hollow Dam, so we stopped to have a look.

The view from the top of the Dam.

The road leaving the Dam.

Just a picture of one of the road we were on.

We stopped and took a break at this road side pull out.

We arrived in Danridge around 4:30 PM eastern time.  The day really sucked,  Dick was mad because he could not find a straight road.

Tomorrow we head for Deals Gap, and a few other roads.
