HEADING EAST - THE RIGHT WAY - ON BIKES

Friday, October 8, 2010 - Day 8

Sorry it took so long to update the blog, but I have been a bit busy with family business the last couple of days.

Friday started with another breakfast at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant.  I was in the mood for a change this morning, so I ordered the hamburger steak and eggs instead of ham and eggs.  Breakfast was great.

After breakfast the group split up again with Dan and Doug headed to the Blue Ridge Parkway, while Dick and I headed back to Clarksville.  Dick and I decided to take the long way back by heading up into Kentucky before heading west.  We started off north on 25E and was greeted with some pretty significant fog.  We did pull over at a scenic overlook and was greeted with some great views.

When we got into Kentucky, the fog finally lifted and we were riding some great twisty roads.  I snapped a few shots while going down the road.  The colors are really starting to show now.

Around lunch time we fond this restaurant in Gamaliel, KY.  Little restaurant in the middle of nowhere, but we were in for a couple of surprises.

I decided to get the rib plate, and to my surprise these were some of the best ribs I have ever eaten.  I was even thinking of ordering a second plate.

While at the restaurant, Dick and I met Luther Boone, who makes the Kermit Chairs.  Now for those of you who are reading this blog who are not motorcyclist probably do not know what a Kermit Chair it.

The Kermit Chair is a handmade portable chair, that breaks down into a small package.  They are strong and expensive.  I have been thinking about getting one of these chairs, but was reluctant because I have never sat in one.  Since I am a pretty big guy, I wanted to make sure the chair could handle my weight.

After talking to Luther a couple of minutes, he invited us to his house, where his shop is located to check out the chair.  After lunch Dick and I drove over there, and I was able to check out the chair.  It is great, and I plan on ordering one when I get home.  Luther does not do direct sales.  He does not own the rights to the chair, he is only under contract to construct them.

After visiting with Luther and checking out his shop and the chair, we headed out for the last 100 miles to Clarksville.  We arrived at moms around 5:00 PM.

This will be my last blog entry for a few days.  Dick needs to do some trailer repairs, and we have decided to hang around Clarksville until after mom's surgery.  The next entry will probable be Wednesday night.
