Today was the first day where we figured we would get wet. When we woke up, we all kept looking out the window expecting the rain. The Weather Channel, showed rain all around us, but at least we were dry for the moment. We had breakfast at the motel restaurant, and at day break we headed out.
We took a direct route and our plan for today was just to make it across the Texas State Line and stay as dry as possible. The day started well, except for all the fog we encountered on Arkansas Highway 7. When we reached just before we reached Russellville, it appeared we may have beat the rain, then all of a sudden over the CB came Dan's voice, "I see blue sky ahead". Crap, now were jinxed.
We stopped in Russellville and filled up the bikes. As we headed south towards Mena it became apparent we were not going to beat the rain. Wet we did get. It wasn't all that bad, but I hate riding on wet roads.
We stopped for lunch in Mena at a Chinese Restaurant. The food was good and it did the job of filling out belly's. Mind you we have big belly's.
We did make it to New Boston, TX where we called it a day. Once we crossed into Texas it was sunny and hot. We had dinner at the diner located next door to the motel.
Sorry not pictures today, I had the camera put away due to the chance of rain.
Tomorrow we should make it home
Wednesday - October 20, 2010 - Day 20
This is what we woke up to this morning. Heavy fog, at least for the short term.
We decided to have breakfast at the same diner we had supper at last night, and a fantastic breakfast it was.
Our plan for the day was simple, get home. Dick separated from us because he needed to go by Troupe, Texas to pick up a part for his bike, the rest of us headed south.
We again experienced for for a couple of hours, but by the time we made it to US Highway 59 it had mostly cleared off. From there it was a straight shot into Houston. We stopped in Marshall for a break, and then in Livingston for gas, but other than that we just rode. We made it home around 1:00 PM.
It was a great trip with good friends. Dick and I did just over 4000 miles, and Doug and Dan did over 5000 miles. October has become an annual ride for Doug and myself, and we did talk about maybe alternating between east and west every other year. Well, I guess we will see what our mood is next year.
It's going to slow down for the next couple months with Liz going on a two week cruise to Hawaii, and the holidays. The next multi day planned ride it for the end of January where we once again will do the BBFO ( Big Bend Freeze Out).
Until then, thanks for reading.
