As usual for us the day started early. I was to meet John and Bill at our normal meeting location, which is the Chevron Station located just south of Richmond, TX on Highway 59. I arrived a little before our designated meeting time of 6:30 AM to find John and Bill were already there. After greetings we headed out taking US Highway 90-A towards San Antonio.
Our plan was to grab some breakfast down the road, and the lucky location turned out to be Doc's Restaurant in Eagle Lake, TX. Nothing special about the breakfast, decent but a bit on the high price side. After breakfast we continued west on 90-A. The first part of this ride was going to be a bit boring, since I have traveled these roads numerous times.
In Gonzales we turned north and started heading towards Luling. Our plan was to go north a bit and then by pass San Antonio on the north side. The day was perfect. We had sunny skies with cool temperatures, which I consider perfect riding weather.
Lunch time found us in Boerne, TX where we were taking a short break. We decided to head to Bandera, TX to have lunch. John and I were looking to eat at the same place we stopped at last year during BBFO 2010, but after arriving in town, we found that restaurant was no more. That is not unusual for this area. Never count on restaurants being in business from year to year. The open and close on a regular basis.
We did find a Bar/Grill to have lunch. The had an extensive menu. We had trouble trying to decide what to order. Lets see here, do I want the Chicken Wings or the burger? I think I will have the burger. Turned out we all ordered the burger, and they turned out pretty good. While there Bill found something that caught his interest.
After lunch we headed towards Camp Wood by way of Medina and Leaky. In Leaky we stopped for gas and then decided to stop at the well know Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop. This is a business that started up a few years ago, and it main customer base is motorcyclist. They have food, drinks, and a small accessory store. It is a popular hangout with motorcyclist that visit the area.
While we were there, Chuck and Dick showed up. The three of us have now turned to five. We visited a while then we decided to head to the motel in Camp Wood. Camp Wood is a short drive and we arrived in no time.
After checking into the motel, we hung out and visited a while. Around 6:00 PM we headed down to the Three Sisters Restaurant to eat. After a so so meal we headed back to the motel where we visited again for a while and then called it a night.
Tomorrow we head to Sanderson, Texas via the back roads.
