Our day started before sunrise at the restaurant located across the street from the motel. I can not ever remember the name of this restaurant, but we eat there every time we stay in Camp Wood. Matter of fact, the waitress remembers us every time we come in.
We had a leisurely breakfast, which of course is served West Texas style, which is one plate at a time. Which means the first person who got their order, is finished by the time the last person receives theirs.
It was a cold morning, so we all had the electrics hooked up. All the bikes started, so that was a good thing. Our destination was simple. We planed on riding to Sanderson via Rocksprings and Juno. This is a back route that to this day has no service stations, and very few homes.
I think we were on the road by 8:00 AM, and it looked like it was going to be a great day. The sun was out, but as usual for this time of year it was cold. We headed north on Highway 55 towards Rocksprings. After passing through Rocksprings we continued on Highway 55 to US Highway 277. At the intersection there is a Picnic Rest Stop, so we decided to take a break.
After our break we headed north on US 277 for a short distance and then turned west on Ranch Road 189. This road dead ends into FM 163 which is part of the old stage road from Del Rio to El Paso. The area is also known locally as the Devils Road because of all the robberies that occurred on it in the old west days.
We made another stop at the old closed down store of Juno. We found there were some left over customers.
After visiting our future lunch, we continued south on FM 189 to Comstock. When we arrived in Comstock, it was lunch time, and as luck was with us there was a restaurant open. It is a crap shoot each year as whether a restaurant will be open.
Lunch was pretty good. I had the Hamburger Seat, and I'm not sure what every one else had. After lunch we headed west on US Highway 90 towards Langtry. We first made a stop at the Pecos River Bridge.
After a short visit at the bridge we continued on to Langtry, where we took a lengthy break while Bill and Brian checked out Judge Roy Bean's place. While we were there Doug was able to catch up with us, so now we are one big happy group.
After saying goodbye to the Judge, we made the short ride to Sanderson where we checked into our motel. After a couple of drinks, we walked across the street to the truck stop and had dinner. It wasn't bad, they had pork chops.
After dinner, we shot the bull for a while then eventually called it a night. Tomorrow we head for Marfa via the River Road.
